Ras Yanks is no stranger to stage shows

Kristopher Levy born and raised in Toronto, Canada, is also known to many as Ras Yanks. At a very early age he knew that music would be his “thing” he grew up listening to music, from LPs to 45’s he loved seeing the start to finish of a musical production. Ras Yanks remembers as a child he would make music with anything he could find that made a unique sound, or that made a combination of sounds. In his teenage years he participated in school concerts and any school event that had to do with music and performing, in doing so he played several instruments, trumpet, drums, saxophone and keyboard were his instruments of choice. Growing up listening to certain artist help craft his now profound style and sound. Some of his favorite artists were Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Jacob Miller, the legendary Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Junior Gong, Junior Reid, Sizzla Kolonji and Half Pint, some of his friends and fans would refer to Ras Yanks as Full Pint. In his music, his goal is to deliver the message of love, peace and harmony to uplift the nation and of course a depiction of his life experiences. Ras Yanks was highly influenced by Junior Gong Marley and Junior Reid. In his songs he speaks to life situations as well as topics that are dear to him. He started singing more about his experiences after his sister Karlene passed away due to medical complications. The loss of his sister devastated him. However, the tragedy caused him to focus even more on music so as not to fall into a depressed state. Ras Yanks has worked with several local artists, Terokan, Doc Holliday, Fire Chess, Ras Yunchie just to name a few. He is a strong supporter of both international and local artists and if given the opportunity to collaborate, an ideal collaboration for him would be with Junior Reid, Lindo P, Kardinal Official, Steejo, Belinda Brady and Melanie Durant are just a small list compiled. Ras Yanks is no stranger to stage shows, he has opened for Anthony B at The opera house, he has also perform at several local venues such as Sin on 7, Windies Restaurant and Bar, Smiling Buddha, Black Swan, Players’ Lounge, Cutties Hide Away, Opera House, Harbour Front, Yonge and Dundas Heineken Festival, Fire and Ambulance Safety Show at CNE, George Brown King Campus, Humber College north campus, Milliken Mills Fair Park, Newfoundlander Tavern and many other local bars and pubs in the GTA. Ras Yanks is versed in his art of music, he has dabbled in acting, and most times he is the life of the party. “Teaching the youths that even though we make mistakes in life no one is perfect and we can learn from our mistakes hence the term leading by example. Be a leader not a follower.” Ras Yanks has very strong views on certain topics one being that of slavery in Libya “ the slave trade in Libya should be abolish, it should be addressed by the political mass as this issue is gravely serious, in this day and age no one should be taken as a slave or caged up like wild animals for political gains.
